On the left panel, you can access your generation history, saved prompts, support, etc. The top left corner displays the number of queries remaining on your account, which is convenient. You can also toggle between the light and dark modes to prevent eye strain.
Overall, its user interface is clean, friendly, and organized with minimal features.
How to Use Merlin AI?
Whether you’re a newbie or a professional, using Merlin AI is a breeze! Follow the steps mentioned below to get started with it!
Step 1: Install Extension
The first step is to install the Merlin AI Chrome extension and sign up with a free account. Once you finish the sign-up process, you can log in to your Merlin AI account.

Next, visit any website and hit the keyboard shortcut Ctrl/Cmd + M to activate Merlin. It will pop up as a window on the right side of your screen, where you can work with it efficiently.
It also integrates with popular social apps like LinkedIn, Gmail, X (Twitter), etc. So, you can access Merlin AI from within these applications as well.
Step 3: Write Your Query
Now, you can write your prompt and select a preferred AI model to execute it. If your query requires access to the latest data on the Internet, make sure to enable web access. You can switch between different AI models to get a variety of results.
Step 4: Share with Others
Once you are happy with your output, you can copy and paste it to your desired location. Alternatively, you can also generate a link to share your chat with others.

Merlin AI brings the power of 10 advanced AI models to your fingertips. When supplying a prompt in the chat, you can specify the AI model you wish to use for the query. For content generation, it lets you choose from different versions of GPT, Claude, Gemini, and Mistral.
Besides each AI model, you can check the number of credits it consumes for a single query. What I loved about Merlin AI is that even in its free version, you get access to the latest GPT-4o model.
By default, Merlin AI is not connected to the web. If your query requires access to the Internet, you can enable web access with a single click. Current affairs, news, etc, are the best use cases where you require internet access.
2) Code Interpreter
If you are into software development or data analytics, you’ll love this tool. The Code Interpreter lets you upload your data in the form of Google Docs, Sheets, and images. Then it analyzes your content to answer any questions around it.
However, it’s not just limited to code. You can use it to analyze any kind of data. For instance, the above image gives me 3 insights from an Excel file of student grades. You can also ask direct questions to extract specific data from the uploaded file.
Overall, Code Interpreter can have many use cases. It could be a great tool to quickly analyze complex data and get help with code generation and code review in any language.
3) Chat with PDFs and Documents
Want to learn about a specific topic but don’t have time to read the entire book? Merlin AI can help you out.
To get started, you simply need to upload a PDF or document on the dashboard and start chatting with it. It gives intelligent answers along with references from the uploaded resource.
Additionally, you can also upload images in your chat. The AI will analyze the image and offer appropriate responses to your queries.
4) Custom Chatbots
Want to build a chatbot for a specific use case? You can do so with Merlin AI. To start, you simply need a name for your chatbot along with a category. Some popular categories include FAQs, eCommerce, Finance, Healthcare, Personal Assistant, News and Media, etc.
Next, you can briefly describe what your chatbot should do. However, I found this functionality of Merlin AI pretty average. They should also allow additional customizations for your chatbots.

Merlin For Emails
Merlin AI integrates with Gmail and Outlook to boost email communication.
You simply need to specify your context (or just click yes/no) and choose an AI model (GPT 3 or GPT 4), and it will generate the entire email or email reply for you within a matter of seconds!
The above image depicts an email reply generated by Merlin AI politely declining an offer presented by a hosting company. The AI understood the context really well and generated concise replies.
You can further refine your output by using options like shorten, simplify, improve writing, etc.
In my experience, the outputs produced by both GPT 3 and GPT 4 models were pretty similar. You can use the GPT 3 model to save up your AI credits.
Now, coming to generating new emails, here’s a cold email I generated pitching my company’s services to potential clients. For this, I simply entered my name and a short description of my brand in the additional settings.
I found GPT 4 much better for generating emails from scratch. It is more focused and produces more straightforward results. Where GPT 3 took 5 paragraphs to generate a cold email, GPT 4 conveyed the same message in merely 3 paragraphs.
Overall, it depends on your preference. If you want to generate elaborate personal or business emails, you can opt for GPT 3. For to-the-point email communication, you can select the GPT 4 AI model.

Merlin AI brings a tonne of value to LinkedIn users. Whether it’s creating a new post or replying to comments, Merlin AI can get it done within seconds!
You can create multiple types of posts, like thought leadership posts, company updates, personal milestones, and hiring posts. It supports GPT 3.5 and GPT 4 AI models for generating content.
Here’s an example of a thought leadership post on “content writing vs copywriting” generated with GPT-4o.
But that’s not all. We all know LinkedIn thrives on engagements. With Merlin AI, you can craft value-adding comments under every post you read within seconds. All you need to do is roughly describe the content of the comment and it’ll transform it into a professional language.
Overall, Merlin AI could help boost productivity for LinkedIn users. I personally didn’t like the LinkedIn posts created from scratch. But the LinkedIn replies are pretty good. I would suggest using the GPT 3.5 model to get effective responses.
Merlin For X (Twitter)
Merlin AI can also help you craft engaging tweets and replies for X. For generating a new tweet, you simply need to provide a short context and let AI handle the rest.
Here are the tweets generated using GPT 3.5 and GPT 4 AI models for the prompt “Love how ChatGPT-4o can mimic human conversations with emotions and can sing songs.”
Honestly, I found both versions pretty similar. But GPT 4 produces slightly better results.
Next, you can also use Merlin AI to reply to tweets from other creators. Following are two replies generated with GPT 3.5 and GPT 4 for a tweet posted by Open AI, introducing the latest GPT-4o AI model.
Merlin AI features multiple options to generate replies, like casual tone, professional tone, positive reply, etc. Again, I couldn’t find much of a difference between the replies generated by both models.
Overall, if you need more refined responses, I would recommend using the GPT-4 model. But if you wish to save up on the AI credits, the outputs produced by GPT 3.5 are just as good.

Merlin For YouTube Summaries
For any YouTube videos that you watch, you can use Merlin to generate a quick summary to be displayed on the right panel. It generates a point-by-point summary along with the time stamp. Each point can be expanded to reveal more details.
Additionally, if you want to extract more data, it lets you chat with the summary. You can ask more questions about the video and it will give you informative replies.
Another cool feature is ‘Comment Key Points’. It clubs all the headings of the summary with the time stamp and adds them under the video.
If you frequently use YouTube for researching content or educating yourself, the YouTube Summarizer tool will save you a chunk of time! The GPT 3.5 model will work well to summarize your videos in any language of your choice. It works great in Hindi as well!
You can also use this tool to repurpose your old YouTube videos into tweets, LinkedIn posts, blogs, Twitter threads, etc. This is a super time-saving tool for content creators. For example, here’s how I created a blog post from my video on the topic ‘VPN Explained‘.
It generated a blog post with 400+ words and well-formatted headings. It also offers meta title, meta description, and keyword suggestions for your blog post.
I have used dozens of YouTube summarization tools and extensions in the past. In my experience, Merlin AI is undoubtedly the best tool for YouTube summaries.

Next, click on the ‘Chat with this Webpage’ option and get the summary of the key points. You can select any AI language model of your choice. I got equally good results with both GPT 3.5 and GPT-4o models.
In my opinion, the Merlin Article Summarizer tool will save a lot of time for researchers and bloggers. They can use it to break down complex concepts and easily extract the key details about any topic.

In-Built Image Generator
The in-built AI image generator is accessible through the Merlin AI Chat. You can start by selecting the aspect ratio, number of output images, and the desired AI mage model from its list of 30+ image models.
The credits consumed are displayed under each image model. In general, all the image models consume 10x queries/image. However, Dall.E 3, being the most powerful image model, takes 60x queries to generate a single image!
I really liked the quality of image generation and the prompt adherence of Merlin AI. If you need professional-quality images for your projects or wish to experiment with different image models, you should try it out! However, the image generation credits are too high!
Bonkers by Merlin
Bonkers is the latest AI-image generation platform developed by Merlin AI that’s still under development.
What’s different with Bonkers? It features 38 AI image models that can be sorted by categories like Artistic, HD, Anime, Portrait, Realism, etc. Each AI model also has multiple tags to specify its use cases.
Besides the regular aspect ratios, it offers extra aspect ratios as per different social media platforms like TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, and more. If you want to exclude specific elements from your image, you can mention them under negative prompts.
It features 500 AI credits and consumes low credits for all AI models. However, it isn’t clear if this is the monthly or one-time limit.

Merlin AI Google Live Search Results
The Chrome extension of Merlin AI also integrates with Google to provide live search results. It works similarly to Google Search Labs and displays a summary of your search results, along with links to important resources.
What’s the difference? Well, you can ask as many follow-up questions as you want. It will scan through the Google SERP to provide relevant answers.
In my opinion, this tool won’t add much value to your research. The AI Overviews tool of Google is about to be launched soon, which will be more powerful than this tool.

If content creation is your primary purpose, you will find lots of pre-designed templates within Merlin AI. These cater to various use cases, including writing, images, SEO, marketing, etc. One of the most popular AI tools is the AI Essay Writer.
To generate an essay, you need to specify the education level, essay type, word count, essay stance (against, in favor, or neutral), desired language, and essay topic. For instance, here’s an analytical college-level essay in favor of the topic “Honey is healthier than sugar”.
The output essay generated is highly detailed. I liked the structure and the analytical approach that it follows throughout the essay. You can use the GPT 3.5 model to get compelling essays with this tool.
AI Translation
Want to translate one language into another? Merlin AI has designed an AI Translation tool specifically for this. It features a list of 120+ languages. To start with it, you need to select a language pairing, the first being the input language and the second one your output language.
Next, you can enter up to 10k characters and select a tone from Amicable, Casual, Friendly, Professional, Witty, Funny, or Formal. Finally, you can choose GPT 3.5 or GPT 4 AI model and translate your text.
I think it works pretty well with the GPT 3.5 model. You can use it to save your AI queries.
AI Content and Plagiarism Detection
AI Content Detection is the latest feature added to Merlin AI. You start by entering content up to 10k characters.
The AI detects the percentage of AI content found in the text and highlights the sentences flagged as AI. However, it does not detect the AI model through which the content was generated.
Merlin AI also features a Plagiarism Detector that simply shows if plagiarism was found or not found in the content along with the original source. However, it doesn’t highlight the plagiarised sentences.
